What’s the one thing that is always in demand and in short supply for busy moms and dads? It’s time. In our home, it feels like we’re always on the clock – get ready for school, get dinner cleaned up, rush through chores.
And time is usually what people complain they don’t have enough of. How often do you think, “If only I had time to…..”
Isn’t it ironic then, that finding time for a date with your spouse is probably the one thing that can do the most good for your marriage?
Here’s the secret about time that people with strong marriages already know.
You don’t wait for romance to strike.
You don’t wait for the stars to align and the children to decide to go to bed early.
You don’t wait to not be tired or in the mood.
You pick a date and make an appointment with each other.
You put it on your calendar and treat it like you would a work meeting or a doctor’s appointment. It’s non-negotiable unless there’s emergency or sickness.
You ignore the emails, the dishes, even the alarm clock that will beckon the next morning. You kiss your children and leave them with the babysitter or tuck them in bed, even if they’re not quite on board. Nope – no extra story tonight, my love. It’s mommy-daddy time tonight. All you need is some time alone with your spouse, each of you giving your full attention.
So my husband and I are making the time.
On date night at the Mueller household, the kids know they’re not invited. #sorrynotsorry. Sometimes we go out to dinner. But what’s even easier (and honestly way more fun) is something else that has turned these date nights into something really special.
Our new date night: We learned to give each other expert back rubs.
Now before you click away, let me tell you that I was a bit skeptical at first. I don’t have a lot of patience or hand strength for giving back rubs. But I’m on a quest to only give meaningful presents and my husband’s birthday was last month.
I read about an online massage course for couples called Melt. And I thought, what better gift for him than the gift of time together and a great massage? So I bought the course.
We went through the videos together and we are now hooked! It’s such a relaxing thing to enjoy a 5 or 10 (or 20!) minute massage on date night. It’s a lot easier than I thought it would be.
I was initially a little concerned because, come on – when you think massage, maybe you’re like me and you think it’s not quite your thing. But my husband and I were pleasantly surprised at how relaxing and tasteful the videos were.
Melt is produced by Denis and Emma, a real-life married couple who have been teaching couples how to give massages for over 15 years. Denis is a professional massage therapist who has worked on some huge celebrities – people like Pierce Brosnan, Formula One drivers, Pearl Jam and even royalty! I’ll bet he has some amazing stories to tell!
Through a series of short videos, Denis and Emma demonstrate proper massage techniques and help you build up a routine.
Other things to know about Melt.
There is no nudity or awkward moments in the videos.
You could even watch them with your kids in the room. I elected to keep the videos private because I didn’t want my snarky tween to be repeating “she’s going to fall in love with your hands” in Denis’s Australian accent. I think my 4 year old would probably have ignored the entire series, though. There’s nothing inappropriate or uncomfortable.
You’ll learn how to use your hands properly so they don’t get tired out after a few short minutes of massage.
Over 17,000 couples have taken these courses! The videos play on any device (laptop, iPad, etc.) We used an iPad for convenience.
The great thing about a massage is that you really get your spouse’s undivided attention. It’s just not possible to be distracted by your phone when you’re massaging or being massaged!
The Melt video course makes a fabulous Valentine’s Day present for your partner!
I can honestly say it’s been an amazing thing for my husband and me to work through together. It’s unique and so much more long-lasting than dinner or chocolate would be (although I have nothing against either one of those!) My husband wanted me to add that buying this course is so completely worth it! 🙂
Melt Video Series is on sale right now until June 19 and currently includes the bonus Foot Rub series (mmmm).
The Melt series is only $99 (usually $147 in total). If you give a massage once a month, that works out to be $8.25 each! That’s quite a bargain for a super special date night!
If you want to make date night in your marriage a priority, you’ve got to make the time!
You have to make the time because it’s not going to find you. I promise you, investing time in your marriage pays huge dividends.
If you do purchase Melt, leave me a comment and let me know what you think, m’k?
