I didn’t always like avocados.
In fact, I thought they looked kind of creepy. What kind of fruit has a scaly black skin? But back when I was on a restricted diet due to my son’s food allergies, I learned to adore avocados.
I discovered avocados make wonderfully creamy desserts. Who knew?
That’s the secret ingredient in this smoothie – a perfectly ripe avocado.
Out of that new-found love for avocados, came one of our favorite smoothie recipes: this creamy strawberry smoothie. The avocado just disappears into the smoothie, providing a lusciousness you can’t normally get without a whole lot of cream.
Plus, once it’s all mixed up, you’ll never know the avocado is there; picky kids won’t turn up their noses.
You must try this smoothie! It’s the perfect summertime treat!
Creamy Strawberry Smoothie
- 1 cup yogurt (homemade or store-bought)
- 1 cup milk
- ½ avocado
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- stevia to taste (optional – I recommend this brand)
Add all ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Makes 2 servings.
In case you’re not an avocado lover, here’s a quick video showing how to get the pit out of an avocado.
Now I eat avocados all the time.
My favorite way to enjoy an avocado is actually right out of the peel with a sprinkle of sea salt. Isn’t it funny how our tastes change as we get older?
